Peixuan makes art to celebrate the flaws of humanness and to bring the whimsical into everyday humdrum.
People and memories fascinate her. She is intrigued by social interaction, by the birth of and tension within relationships, by one person's struggle from within a crowd. She is also drawn to nostalgia. This stems perhaps from a desire to explore her own home and heritage. She returns repeatedly to these themes, sometimes from the perspective of a bemused observer and at other times as attempts to understand her experiences.
Elements of daily life commonly feature in Peixuan's work as containers of narrative. She indulges in flights of fancy that imbue toothbrushes and lampshades with foolish human aspirations. She finds that mundane objects speak of human personality and struggle, and help to ground larger emotional or psychological issues.
Peixuan has always relished the catharsis of technically rigorous work; her art is rooted in technique and realistic drawing. However, recent pursuits have delved as well into a wider range of media, including found object, sound art and photography.
